Aurora's Fairy godmothers bestow their gifts upon the child. But before the gifts are all given, the Evil Fairy appears and pronounces one day Aurora will prick her finger on the needle of a spinning wheel and die. However, the Lilac Fairy intervenes with the promise that Aurora will not die, but fall into a deep sleep and will awaken upon the kiss of a Prince.

Sixteen years later, Aurora, who is living with her fairy godmothers in the forest, dances with her friend in the nearby village. A handsome Prince, hunting in the forest, happens upon their merriment and takes notice of Aurora. Aurora's godmothers allow her to pick berries with her friends in the forest, but she becomes lost during a storm.

-INTERMISSION.
The frightened Aurora is befriended by the animals in the forest. They dance to cheer her up. Suddenly, the Evil Witch appears with her helpers and a spinning wheel. Aurora pricks her finger on the needle and falls into a deep sleep. The Prince then appears with the Fairy Godmothers and he awakens her with a kiss.
